Description
The Approved ISM Navigation Auditor and Assessor course provides a comprehensive understanding of the skills, traits, and expertise required to effectively audit navigation practices in accordance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and OCIMF’s Management and Self-Assessment programmes, including TMSA and OVMSA. Designed for maritime professionals involved in navigational assurance, auditing, inspections, and onboard assessment, the course combines regulatory knowledge with practical auditing techniques to develop confident and competent navigation auditors.
The programme explores modern navigational best practices, including bridge resource management, passage planning, situational awareness, ECDIS use, and the human factors that influence safe vessel operations. Delegates will learn how to systematically gather and evaluate evidence of compliance through document reviews, direct observation, crew interviews, and onboard assessment techniques.
Participants will also gain practical knowledge in planning and conducting professional audits, surveys, inspections, and assessments, enabling them to identify non-conformities, assess operational performance, verify corrective actions, and provide clear, actionable feedback to improve safety and efficiency. The course emphasises critical thinking, effective communication, professionalism, and a strong understanding of the regulatory framework, ensuring auditors can approach each assessment with confidence and precision.
Suitable for Masters, Chief Officers, Marine Superintendents, DPAs, Vetting Inspectors, and Navigation Auditors, the course can also be cross-certified to the International Maritime Organisation Model Course 1.30 Onboard Assessment training and the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment.
