The IMO Model Course 3.11: Safety Investigation into Marine Casualties and Marine Incidents is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely and competently investigate accidents, near misses, marine casualties, and marine incidents. The course aligns with the industry’s best practices and the provisions of the Casualty Investigation Code (Resolution MSC.255(84)), ensuring compliance with international standards.
Participants will learn to systematically apply investigative techniques to identify root causes, contributing factors, and underlying issues leading to incidents. The course emphasises critical skills such as evidence collection and analysis, interviewing techniques, and effective documentation. It also addresses the importance of impartiality, professionalism, and adherence to ethical guidelines during investigations.
By the end of the training, attendees will be able to effectively prepare investigation reports, make safety recommendations, and contribute to improving maritime safety by sharing lessons learned from incidents.
