Description

This comprehensive 2-day training course is designed for seafarers, loading masters, and mooring pilots involved in the vetting of oil, chemical, and liquefied gas tankers. Led by an experienced vetting and tanker inspection specialist, the course provides in-depth knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISGOTT, the SIRE programme, and Oil Record Books. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the vetting process, including how decisions are made, key inspection areas, essential equipment, systems, and documentation requirements.

Now incorporating OCIMF’s SIRE 2.0 approach, the course covers standard vessel inspection questionnaires, regulatory compliance, and best practices. It explores both technical and operational aspects, from shipboard systems to safety management, and includes hands-on exercises and real-life scenarios to enhance practical understanding. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to conduct effective inspections and make well-informed vetting decisions.

  • Gain insight into the background and business drivers for vetting and risk-based decision-making.
  • Learn the vessel screening process, key vetting clauses, and the role of the vetting inspector.
  • Examine vessel systems and how they impact vetting assessments.
  • Master the arrangement and preparation for onboard inspections.
  • Understand how SIRE 2.0 structures inspections, including question sets, response tools, and report generation.
  • Understand how CDI 10th Edition structures inspections, including question sets, response tools, and report generation
  • Identify human factors and the human element in vetting, incorporating TMSA principles.
  • Learn how inspections are raised, conducted, and evaluated from both inspector and receiver perspectives.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of observations and findings to improve compliance and safety.
  • Gain expertise in operator comments and the lifecycle of a vetting report.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of VIQ (Vessel Inspection Questionnaire) and CDI (Chemical Distribution Institute) standards.
  • Explore emergency procedures and their role in effective ship vetting.
