ISM Critical Equipment Course (Approved)
The ISM Critical Equipment course is a one-day course designed to equip maritime professionals with the essential knowledge to identify and manage equipment whose failure could lead to hazardous situations. Focusing on ISM Code section 10.3, the course emphasises enhancing equipment reliability through proper maintenance, testing, and compliance, reducing risks and ensuring safe, efficient operations.

Description
The ISM Critical Equipment course is designed to provide maritime professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code’s requirements for identifying and improving the reliability of Critical Equipment (section 10.3).
“The Company should identify equipment and technical systems the sudden operational failure of which may result in hazardous situations. The safety management system should provide for specific measures aimed at promoting the reliability of such equipment or systems. These measures should include the regular testing of stand-by arrangements and equipment or technical systems that are not in continuous use.”
Participants will learn how to identify, manage, and maintain critical equipment, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, minimizing operational risks.

Content
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the responsibilities of the Company and the Vessel in complying to Section 10 of the ISM Code.
• Describe what Critical Equipment is and why it differs from other equipment and systems onboard.
• Develop and manage a risk assessment strategy for Critical Equipment.
• Describe ways in which the Company can promote the reliability of Critical Equipment.
• Ensure compliance with ISM Code through proper documentation and record-keeping.
